RioMed Launches CellmaConnect: Clinical E-Referrals Platform Transforming Patient Care Across the Caribbean
RioMed is proud to announce the launch of CellmaConnect, a clinical e-referral platform designed to streamline healthcare collaboration and improve patient care across the Caribbean.
This may seem familiar: A woman goes to her general practitioner for a medical concern and upon examination is determined to need a specialist, a lab test, a medical imaging result, or an allied healthcare professional. Her doctor hands a paper referral which she must take physically to the referred healthcare professional. Somewhere between the days that she didn’t get time to drop off her referral, she accidentally tore or misplaced the referral paper. Now, she needs to return to her GP to ask for a new one. She gets one but at the detriment of her funds. After she does see the referred healthcare professional, she now must return to the GP with the referral report so she can be treated. In the instance that she had to be referred more than once, it would have been a physically, emotionally and financially taxing process to go through.
We can order food and clothing, communicate with loved ones and keep abreast with any topic in the world, so why not apply that convenience and efficiency to healthcare?
With this in mind, RioMed set out to create a solution. The journey began with the Call for Proposals through the Shaping the Future of Innovation Project, implemented by the Caribbean Industrial Research Institute (CARIRI), in collaboration with the Ministry of Planning and Development, the European Union and Inter-American Development Bank. And finally, this vision has become a reality.
RioMed hosted a launch event at the British High Commissioner’s Residence in Trinidad & Tobago on January 28th to herald this healthcare innovation. The event was attended by representatives from the grant agencies, the Ministry of Health, clinics around the island and many healthcare professionals. As part of the programme, RioMed showcased an introductory video and conducted a live demonstration of CellmaConnect, highlighting its features and the transformative impact it promises for healthcare collaboration across Trinidad & Tobago and the wider Caribbean.
CellmaConnect is the Caribbean region’s first clinical e-referral platform, designed to further bridge the gap between healthcare providers and patients. Healthcare professionals – inclusive of clinicians, pharmacies, labs, imaging centers and allied healthcare providers – are now able to effortlessly refer and access patient records securely nationwide, enhancing collaboration among providers so that patient care is both streamlined and efficient. Additionally, this system frees patients from the hassle of physically delivering referrals. It allows secure access anytime, anywhere, instant updates for real-time tracking, organization of referral records and a user-friendly interface.
